La Familia has a range of programs and services that are open to families and adults. Play Care is available for children ages 0 to 5 years so that parents can attend workshops and events. The information below outlines programs and eligibility information.

 

Behavioral Health Program

Eligibility

Description

Children’s Mental Health Services Families of children and youth, ages 0-21 with Medi-Cal. Counseling services are offered in the home, school, office setting. Individual and family counseling and groups are provided for children and youth experiencing emotional and behavioral concern/challenges. A wide array of Psychiatric services are offered with a strength based , family focused approach.
Supporting Community Connections Program Latino community support for all ages, open to anyone free of charge. The program connects The Latino community with suicide prevention resources and intervention training. La Familia works to build a mentally healthy and resilient Latino community through risk awareness workshops and groups and events. Parenting of Teens and Tweens is a 8 week workshop offered to reduce risk and increase levels of communication in the family.
Community Health Navigator Program (CHNP) Latino and Spanish-speaking community members who have been diagnosed with diabetes, hypertension or cancer. Participants must live in the following zip codes : 95817, 95820, 95824, and 95828 La Familia provides assistance with:

  • Paperwork completion
  • Education resources and referrals
  • Health awareness workshops

Family Program

Description

Birth & Beyond – Nurturing Parent Program (NPP). Pregnant women and families with children ages 0-5 who reside in the following zip codes:

Birth & Beyond – NPP is a home visitation program that offers early prevention support for families. The evidence-based parenting education program provides Home Visitors who work with families to build parent-child relationships through bonding; teach child development and parenting skills; link families to health services; and provide resources and information.
Effective Parenting English, Hmong and Spanish-speaking families.Classes are offered during the day and evening. Available to Sacramento area residents Parenting education, support services and activities are offered at La Familia and within the community. Additional services include: play care, child development groups, educational workshops, stress-reducing activities, healthy living workshops, car safety training and information and referrals.
Crisis Intervention Specialist Children ages 0-5 and their families. The Crisis Intervention Specialist provides direct intervention, information, referral, and follow-up for parents experiencing a crisis. Case management is provided as needed to mitigate the crisis and help the family stabilize.
Car Seat Safety Class All community members residing in Sacramento County.The workshop is free, but registration is required. This workshop will teach the importance of car seat safety and teach attendees how to select the proper car seat for a child’s age and weight. Attendees will also learn how to properly secure the child to the car seat and how to properly install the car seat in the car.
Parent Support and Stress Reducing Group Families with children between the ages of 0-5 years. This weekly class teaches stress reduction through arts and crafts. Meet new friends while enjoying crafts and other projects.
Family Partner & Youth Advocate Families of children and youth, ages 0-21. La Familia’s Family & Youth Advocates provide family members with resources and parental support through the Children’s Mental Health services program and Supporting Community Connections.

Community Program

Eligibility

Description

Parenting Workshops and Weekly Parent Support Group Parents with children ages 0-5. Day and evening classes available. Get the support and encouragement you need for effective parenting.
Parenting of Teens and Tweens Open to the public, offered in Spanish and English. 8 week course for learning how to communicate with youth and improve the family relationship. Free of cost.
Covered California All community members Covered California helps families and individuals gain access to affordable health care insurance. Visit La Familia or the Covered California website (https://www.coveredca.com) to find out how you and your family can get enrolled in free or low-cost insurance.
Annual Health & Safety Fair All community members. La Familia’s Annual Health & Safety Fair is held in partnership with other private and public agencies each year. Participants receive free health related screenings, resources and information, activities for families and their children, healthy snacks are given to the community members and prizes are raffled. There is assistance with Medi-Cal applications. Check the events calendar for date, time and location.
Annual Create-a-Costume for Halloween Party All community members. Held annually; check our monthly calendar for details.
Adopt-a-Child (Christmas) All community members. Held annually; check our monthly calendar for details.
La Posada Holiday Celebration All community members. Held annually; check our monthly calendar for details.
